One of the biggest problems stray animals face during the hot summer months is access to water. Especially in paved urban environments, accessing shaded, water-filled areas becomes nearly impossible for stray cats and dogs. The "One Cup of Water" Project, launched to address this issue, has been implemented in 15 different provinces across Türkiye with the support of volunteers.
As part of the project, durable and environmentally friendly water troughs were installed in 50 locations. Specially selected locations included parks, mosque courtyards, school entrances, and apartment building entrances. Local volunteers check and refill the water troughs daily. This initiative has also become a neighborhood awareness campaign. Neighbors and shopkeepers have also joined the effort by adopting the water containers.
"One Container of Water" wasn't just a physical aid program; it was also an approach aimed at raising public awareness. Through social media posts, thousands of people learned about the project and began implementing similar initiatives in their own neighborhoods. This small but significant step made a vital difference for our beloved companions struggling to survive quietly in urban life.
